ELEMENTS OF A SUCCESSFUL MIND – YEAR 10, 11, 12

During the final years of secondary schooling, students are faced with many important decisions.

A GROWTH MINDSET is needed, one that is open to lifelong learning and development, understanding that TALENT IS THE RESULT OF HARD WORK AND PRACTISE, not simply something innate.

Individual CHARACTER STRENGTHS (e.g. creativity, curiosity, kindness, leadership, perseverance, humility and social intelligence) influence decision-making and life choices.

One of the major factors of success is HAVING DIRECTION – setting goals and marking milestones to help you see the results of your efforts, giving you motivation and inspiration.

This depends on your LEVEL OF COMMITMENT and your SOLUTIONS TO OBSTACLES.

RESILIENCE (staying calm under pressure and bouncing back from setbacks and disappointments) IS A KEY ATTRIBUTE FOR SUCCESS.

MINDFULNESS is the act of STAYING IN THE MOMENT AND ON TASK, increasing your ability to concentrate, reducing stress and anxiety.

SELF-ACCEPTANCE is the ability to acknowledge your flaws, and celebrate your strengths. This is important for maintaining momentum and self-belief.

With OPTIMISM you anticipate being successful, take responsibility for your own activities and correct or modify your behaviour to prevent setbacks.

‘GRIT' is a determination and passion to persevere toward a long-term goal despite being confronted by obstacles and distractions – silencing your procrastination and excuses to accomplish the things you need to get done. (Often the necessary tasks are the least glamorous, and are not immediately rewarding, BUT THEY can be the most important steps in reaching your goals.)

Building GOOD TIME MANAGEMENT SKILLS is NOT SIMPLY about getting things done on time. It involves SETTING PRIORITIES, breaking down long-term projects into SMALLER STEPS and having a good system for ORGANIZING YOUR RESOURCES.

Success is more than having the right technical skills or having gotten good grades. You need to be able to BUILD STRONG RELATIONSHIPS AND NETWORKS and be able to WORK FOR, AND WITH, ALL SORTS OF PEOPLE. https://www.gooduniversitiesguide.com.au

  1. "PAY attention" – Why do men earn more than women? The concept of merit is often brought up around the gender pay dispute, namely, that employees should be paid based on their experience and ability, rather than their sex. Statistically, girls and young women outperform their male counterparts when it comes to educational attainment, and while women are still performing the bulk of unpaid domestic chores in a climate where men are working less, the discrepancy is a bitter pill to swallow. Despite time, money and resources, the statistics indicate that the gender pay gap remains largely unchanged.  The promotion of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) in female education, particularly from a young age, is a tactic aimed at reducing the pay gap, with the intention of encouraging their interests in fields like Engineering and Architecture. The ‘Code Like A Girl' program aims at closing the IT skills and gender gaps. It is estimated that by 2020 Australia's digital technology sector will need 700,000 more information and communications technology workers. At present, women make up less than 20% of Australia's digital technology workforce. https://www.gooduniversitiesguide.com.au

  12. EMPLOYMENT – SHOULD I LEARN CODE? If you're thinking about learning a new language, maybe you should consider code. While Mandarin and Spanish are widely spoken dialects, the language of computers is as good as it gets, and there is a growing need across various industries for employees who can code. While there are countless programs and tutorials online, the reality is that it will be a far easier process if you can sign up to a physical class, or enlist someone to teach you one-on-one. That way you can ask questions face-to-face and avoid typing obscure questions into Google. Be realistic. As with any skill, coding requires hours and hours of practice to reach a certain level of competence. It might be confusing and tough at first but coding is definitely a worthwhile skill to learn and can assist you with your employability prospects https://gooduniversitiesguide.com.au
