REQUEST FOR ALL SCHOOL MAINTENANCE LOCAL TRADES PROVIDERS AND SUPPLIERS

The NSW Government has committed the largest investment in planned maintenance at public schools in the history of NSW. A record $1.3 billion is being spent on an ambitious delivery program, focused on employing local businesses and contractors across the state.

To assist in addressing regional school maintenance issues and at the same time provide work for local trade’s persons and suppliers across the Greater Western Sydney region encompassing South Western and Western Sydney, over $100 million is being invested to upgrade and maintain our school infrastructure.

Given this record spend by School Infrastructure NSW, you are invited to an Asset Management Unit industry breakfast briefing. This will provide information to existing and new contractors on how you can get involved.

NSW schools respond to bushfires

Many schools are responding to the catastrophic fire rating that is affecting communities across the state this week.

We are continuously updating the School safety page with a list of government and non-government schools, as well as TAFE NSW campuses that are currently non-operational.

While some schools are temporarily non-operational due to localised fires, many others in high-risk areas are non-operational as a precautionary measure.

Schools in some areas are being used as emergency evacuation centres at the direction of the Rural Fire Service.

For schools that are currently operational, school pickups and dropoffs will continue as usual. If your school is currently non-operational, it will likely remain so tomorrow.

Large scale distressing events affect our school communities in many ways. Headspace’s mental health support resource (PDF 100.52KB) is available to help students, teachers and school staff respond to the bushfires.

Creative and Active Kids vouchers now available

Creative kids can now put a $100 voucher towards extra-curricular creative activities outside of school.

Together with Active Kids, this program aims to encourage more NSW children to participate in a range of extra-curricular activities such as coding, languages, circus, performing arts and visual arts.

Parents can apply for one $100 voucher for each child enrolled in school on the Creative Kids website and use it towards the cost of registration, participation or tuition. You just redeem the voucher with a registered provider in your area when making your payment.

This is a great opportunity for your child to become involved in a range of activities that will build on their education, growth and development.

The Game Changer Challenge is back

It’s not too late to become a Game Changer with applications for the Education Week challenge due by 7 June.

The Game Changer Challenge brings 16 teams from public schools across NSW – eight from primary and eight from secondary – to Sydney during Education Week in August for a three-day, intensive design-thinking workshop.

The Game Changer workshops, which start on Tuesday 6 August, includes teacher training in the use of design thinking as a teaching methodology and its application for school planning.

It also includes a team competition where schools will work under the guidance of experts from industry and academia to develop a solution to this year’s critical question: How might we humanise technology?

Department of Education Secretary Mark Scott has encouraged students and teachers to get behind the event as it highlights the critical thinking students will need to develop to succeed in the future.

“The Game Changer Challenge is an exciting initiative that helps educate and inform our students and teachers on how to integrate the problem-solving methodology of design thinking into the classroom,” Mr Scott says.

“It embraces the 21^st century skills our students will need to thrive in a globalised world such as collaboration, creative thinking and communication.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our students at all levels to be involved in discussing and addressing a real-world issue that will affect their future lives. I encourage every school to get involved.”

The challenge is designed to make strong learning and teaching connections to the NSW syllabus specifically in the area of developing general capabilities such as critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, communication and problem-solving.

The challenge also provides teachers with an opportunity to gain exposure to the design thinking process and includes teacher resources to introduce this creative problem-solving methodology into the classroom.

Finalists will be selected based on a 60-second video that showcases your team’s vision around the question of humanising technology.

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a point in time assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. The tests assess the foundational skills in reading, writing, spelling and numeracy that are essential for every child to progress through school and life.

This year NAPLAN takes place between 14 and 16 May for paper tests and between 14 and 24 May for schools participating in NAPLAN Online.

NAPLAN data is used to help monitor student progress over time against a national measure and to identify areas of strength and improvement. It is used in combination with other school assessments to guide and support student learning.

Do you have a great idea to improve your area?

My Community Project is a new NSW Government funding program that is all about local ideas, local projects and local decisions.

You can apply now for grants from $20,000 - $200,000 for projects that will make a difference to your community. Projects could include new playground equipment, sports facilities, paths or ramps to improve access, public art or a community service.

The local community can vote for their favourite projects in July and successful projects will be announced in September.

With school holidays just around the corner, it’s time to visit your doctor to check that you and your family are fully protected against measles, before you travel overseas.

Measles is a serious, highly contagious, viral illness that is easily spread through the air when an infectious person coughs, sneezes or breathes. If you and your family are not fully vaccinated, or have never been vaccinated, you are at risk of contracting measles.

Not sure if you’re fully protected?

In Australia, the measles vaccine (MMR) consists of 2 doses. If you’re not sure whether you’ve had 2 doses of the measles vaccine, visit your doctor. It’s safe to receive another dose.

Children born in Australia

If your children were born in Australia, they may have received the measles vaccine at 12 months old and the second dose at 18 months, in accordance with the National Immunisation Program.
If you have a baby under 12 months old, consult your doctor about getting their measles vaccination.

Adults born in Australia

Born before 1966 – you were most likely exposed to measles as a child and are generally considered to be immune. If in doubt, ask your GP.
Born between 1966 and 1994 – you may not have received 2 doses. Talk to your doctor about the free vaccine if you’re unsure.
Born after 1994 – the National Immunisation Program offers 2 doses, and you can check your vaccination status using the Australian Immunisation Register.

Like all NSW public schools, this week we will receive a School Budget Allocation Report with our funding for 2019. The report will help us manage our total budget delivered through the Resource Allocation Model (RAM).

The RAM supports schools through needs-based funding to ensure a fair, efficient and transparent allocation of funds. Our school has the flexibility to make local decisions based on the specific needs of our students.

We will use our 2019 funding to support students and improve educational outcomes. The school executive will continue to work with the school community as we implement the school plan using this needs-based funding.

Indigenous Songs Feature in Songfest Concert

Young singers from seven Sydney schools will join with Campbelltown's Gondwana Indigenous Children's Choir and members of the Sydney Children's Choir for 2018 Songfest which takes place in Campbelltown at Ambarvale High School on 4 September.

The children taking part will learn two songs in the Indigenous language of the area - Dharawal.

The Western Sydney schools taking part in Songfest are Ambarvale Public and Ambarvale High, Claymore Public, Thomas Reddall High, Thomas Acres Public School and St Helen's Park Primary.

They will be joined by students from La Perouse Primary School - which is in a region where Dharawal is also the traditional language.

Please note: If any of the students haven't achieved Band 8 in Year 9 NAPLAN for literacy and/or numeracy then they get two opportunities every year to take this test.

In the next few weeks home school liaison officers will be in the school to interview students in Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 who have:

- unjustified absences (including lateness)

- a pattern of absences (whether justified or not)

The interviews are non-punitive and provide students with an opportunity to discuss any barriers to their attendance. The object of the interviews is to reduce the number of unjustified absences from school, by talking with the students concerned.

If you have concerns about your child participating in these interviews please contact the school, so that we can discuss your concerns.

Caryl Churchill's play ‘Top Girls' was both moving and hilarious but most importantly had students critically thinking about real issues. As a result, Year 11 have decided that the Voice of Women in Theatre is one of the topics they will be studying for their Drama HSC.

Active Kids Program

The NSW Government is helping kids get active with the new Active Kids program.

From 31 January 2018, parents, guardians and carers can apply for a $100 voucher per calendar year for each student enrolled in school.

The voucher may be used with a registered activity provider for registration, participation and membership costs for sport, fitness and active recreation activities.

The voucher can be used at any time during the calendar year it was issued.

To use the voucher, give your voucher details to an approved Active Kids Provider.

The program runs year-round, so kids can get active at any time!

Reinforcing safety in school zones

8 February 2018

Seven new school zone offences enforced from 1 February 2018.

To help schools keep the school zone safer for all pedestrians and drivers there are seven new traffic offences with new fines.

None of the seven offences attract demerit points when committed elsewhere on the road but now in a school zone they each come with two points.

The changes are:

1. Stopping in intersection - Under the changes if a driver commits this offence in a school zone they will receive a penalty of $439 and 2 demerit points.

2. Stop within 20m of intersection (traffic lights) - Under the changes if a driver commits this offence in a school zone they will receive a penalty of $439 and 2 demerit points.

3. Stop within 10m of intersection (no traffic lights) - Under the changes if a driver commits this offence in a school zone they will receive a penalty of $439 and 2 demerit points.

4. Stop near bicycle crossing lights - Under the changes if a driver commits this offence in a school zone they will receive a penalty of $439 and 2 demerit points.

5. Obstruct access to ramp/path/passageway - Under the changes if a driver commits this offence in a school zone they will receive a penalty of $330 and 2 demerit points.

6. Not parallel park in the direction of travel - Under the changes if a driver commits this offence in a school zone they will receive a $330 fine and 2 demerit points.

7. Parallel park close to dividing line - Under the changes if a driver commits this offence in a school zone they will receive a $330 fine and 2 demerit points.

Lions Club Youth of the Year Competition - Well done Maca!

On Wednesday 1st November our 2018 school captain Maca K participated in the Lions Club Youth of the Year Competition at Wests Leagues Club. The challenge of this competition is huge requiring a 30 minute interview, two 2 minute impromptu speeches and a 5 minute prepared speech. Maca spoke exceptionally well and was a fantastic ambassador for our school. She was highly praised by the judges, fellow contestants and other members of the community present.

Invitations are now open for students to apply for a 2018 Scholarship at Thomas Reddall High School.

Scholarships consists of $200 grant for students in Years 11 & 12 and $150 for students in Years 8 - 10. These funds may be used by successful applicants for school fees and excursions in 2018.

To apply students need to submit an Expression of Interest (approx. 500 words) outlining their:

Academic success
Participation in whole school events
other extra-curricular activities

Applications close at 2:30pm on Monday 13 November 2017 and should be submitted to Mrs C Edwards in the TAS Staffroom.

The scholarship panel will also consider each applicants attendance and behaviour at school in determining the successful applicant for each year scholarship.

Thomas Reddall Supports - Macarthurs 24 Hours Fight Against Cancer

Last Friday our students welcomed Paul Nunnari to our school, Paul needs no introduction to the Macarthur community being a very well known Silver Medal Paralympian. Paul is working hard to support fundraising efforts which assist local people fighting cancer. On Wednesday 3^rd May the TAS faculty hosted the University of Wollongong's STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Roadshow.

All Year 7 and 8 students attended the Roadshow and participated in a variety of hands on STEM activities including bottle rockets, balsa plane flights, Bridge making and testing, 3D printing, cell extraction, driver simulation activities and water experiments. STEM education and exposure to learning activities involving STEM is an important component of 21st Century learning. Students enjoyed the experiences on the day and were engaged in all activities.

Thursday 20 July we had the official opening of our Glen Alpine Trade Skills Centre. Attended by local State Parliament member for Campbelltown Mr Greg Warren and other dignitaries from Campbelltown Council, NSW Department of Education and Macarthur Work Placement. All were treated to a delightful morning tea provided by our HSC Hospitality class. The $1 million dollar investment in our school is certainly money well spent. This year Thomas Reddall High School have introduced an exciting new program into our existing curriculum of excellence called Project Based Learning (PBL). PBL is a student-centred research based approach to learning that requires students to consider the world around them and devise and create a real-world service, project or campaign that they can contribute to the issue or subject they have focused on.

The learning focus of PBL is on students practising real-world skills such as planning, researching, communicating, collaborating and co-operating.

Year 7 have completed their first PBL project. They have researched the achievement of success through individuals they have chosen to research and have produced inspirational posters for year 12 graduates. Year 7 will be presenting these this month to parents and year 12 students.

With plans to extend this innovative learning next year, students at Thomas Reddall will continue to enjoy the achievement of success.

SCHOOL UNIFORM – Term 3 will see a blitz on school uniform. It is imperative that parents support the school in advocating a positive image for our school. Wearing a uniform is about developing positive habits for the students, as when they leave school most occupations will require people to wear some form of uniform for their job. As a school we are committed in preparing our students for life beyond school and monitoring uniform is a great way for the school and the community of parents to work together to ensure our children are doing the right thing. Many students play in weekend sporting teams and it is the expectation of their sporting clubs that the children wear the appropriate attire when playing that sport. That's exactly what we expect also. Please support the school in creating a positive school image to the broader communities of Ambarvale and Campbelltown. Both HSC Ancient History classes viewed a live stream of a seminar at the Maritime Museum led by Herculaneum expert Andrew Wallace-Hadrill. Why Learning the Times Tables is Really Important

Learning multiplication is an important foundation for learning different aspects of mathematics such as division, algebra, long multiplication, and even fractions. For students that don't have a solid grasp of the times tables, they may find these other areas to be hard to understand as well, and may fall behind in their Mathematics lessons.

At Thomas Reddall we want to help your child have success by making sure they know their times tables. All Year 7 students have been asked to have their time tables memorised:

1-6 times tables by May 29
7-12 times tables by August 19

Support is being provided by the classroom teachers, aides and support staff to ensure no student is left behind.

How you can help your child:

- make sure your child places their timetables up on their wall (other suggestions are the kitchen fridge or in the bathroom!)

- find out which tables they don't know yet

- provide encouragement and have fun learning together

- show practical ways you use the timetables when cooking, shopping, working out your budget

- search online games such as mazes, puzzles, connect 4, arcade shooting that use times tables. Simply search "times tables games".

Students who have not memorised their tables by the dates given will be expected to participate in a catch up program, where they will be assisted and supported by staff to memorise them. These programs will run during lunch breaks.

Tell Them From Me Student Feedback Survey

This term, our school, like many others in the state, will participate in a Department of Education and Communities initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey aims to help improve student learning outcomes and measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.

The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide our school with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help improve how they do things at school.

I want to assure you that the survey is confidential and school staff will not be able to identify individual students from their responses. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours between 9 March and 2 April. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary.

A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey is being sent home with randomly selected students. If you do not want your child or children to participate, please return the form to school by Friday 27 February. Copies of the form and FAQs are available from the website above.

Over recent weeks candidates for the positions on the student leadership team have been presenting their platforms to students and staff and last week the elections were held.

All of the candidates are outstanding representatives of their year, and of the school as a whole, with the majority having been very active participants in the student representative council (SRC.)

Personalised Learning and Support Tool (PLASST) 2013 Trial

During the next few weeks our school, along with other public schools in the area, will be participating in the trial of a new tool (PLASST) being developed by the Department of Education and Communities for teachers to identify the learning and support needs of their students.

This trial is focussed on the development of a sound and reliable online tool that, when finalised, can be used by teachers in collaboration with parents and carers to identify the strengths and educational needs of students with additional learning and support needs. This information will assist schools in planning and personalising learning and support for individual students who require adjustments in their day to day learning.

The trial will involve teachers completing an online questionnaire about the educational needs of some of their students. Students themselves will not be required to complete any additional work or be formally assessed as part of the trial. This trial will not impact on students' education provisions.

Further information about the PLASST trial, including the collection and use of data in the trial, will be provided by the school in a letter to parents and carers.

If you have any questions about the PLASST trial, would like to discuss your child's involvement or would prefer that your child does not participate, please telephone the school on 4625 4404.

At the CSG meeting the issue of improving communication between home and school was discussed. Many people commented that they only knew of the meetings through the grapevine because the proper channels had not worked.

One thing that was agreed would make things better is email. I have initiated an email list to send out this newsletter and other messages but have addresses for only a fraction of our families. To ensure that we get important messages please email the school on:

Why is That Policeman in the School?

Typically when students see police in the school they immediately say, "What has happened?"

Recently there has been a new face in uniform around the place whose role is to promote a more positive relationship between members of the school community and the police.

Snr Constable Clapam is our School Liaison Police officer. He has recently visited to talk to students in years 7 and 8 about issues of cyber safety. He will be back regularly to address student, parent and staff groups about a range of issues including student behaviour in the community and safe parties.

TRHS Trivia Night Fundraiser - 19/10/12

The 2nd Annual TRHS Trivia Night will be held on Friday 19th October 2012. The event is a fundraiser for the school's Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) rewards program, which rewards more students, more often for doing the right thing. The inaugural event last year raised over $1500. The details of this year's event are as follows:

When: Friday 19th October 2012

Time: 6pm for a 6.30pm start.

Where: Thomas Reddall High School Hall (Cnr Jaggers Place & Woodhouse Drive, Ambarvale)

Cost $10 per person (payable at the door)

Prizes: For winning teams, major raffle, lucky door, best decorated table and many more.

This event is for over 18 year olds only. Tables are asked to bring their own food and drinks.

Students Climb Sydney Harbour Bridge

The teachers of Thomas Reddall High School took close to 60 year 7 students on an excursion to Sydney on June 22nd.

Our journey began at 8.30am with a train trip to Circular Quay. From here we walked through the historical Rocks area which is filled with ancient buildings and cobble stone streets. We climbed the famous Argyle steps which take you up onto the Harbour Bridge.

Once up on the Bridge, we made our way to the southern Pylon. We climbed over 200 steps inside this Pylon. There was a museum which has photos and stories documenting the construction of the Bridge.

We then climbed another 50 steps to reach the observation area, where we were greeted with a most magnificent and windy 360 degree view of Sydney Harbour. Only one child had ever experience this.

After our climb, everyone walked over the Bridge to the northern side, and touched the Northern Pylon, so that they could tell everyone they had crossed the Sydney Harbour Bridge on foot.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Quay, we had a representative student Brooke Mobbs take photos and showcase to us pictures of the Bridge from the Opera House perspective.

We ended our tour with a picnic in a park in front of The Contemporary Art museum, watching the ferries coming and going in the Harbour.

Throughout the day, students behaved in an excellent manner, showing maturity and consideration to others at all times. They made the teachers proud and demonstrated what a well-mannered group they were.

As part of the experience, during the weeks that followed, students made paintings of the Bridge in Art classes, calculated the amount of traffic crossing the Bridge each day in Maths, and even completed models of the Bridge in Technology Mandatory.

Regional Director Comes to TRHS

On the afternoon of Friday 10 August the Regional Director of Education for South Western Sydney, Mr Murat Dizdar, visited the school with the relieving School Education Director for the Campbelltown schools, Ms Mandy Shaw.

On his visit Mr Dizdar met some of the student leaders, visited classroom to see the learning our students engage in and watched a performance by the Special Education choir group led by Ms Ellem. Mr Dizdar was particularly impressed by the skill and dedication of the choir group who not only sang but also presented the pieces in sign language.

Our highly successful crew once again gave an outstanding performance at 'Bring it On 2012.'

This annual competition is an opportunity for students to not only demonstrate their dance skills but to give back to their community through public service and fundraising.

The choreography is developed by the students.

STATE SILVER Girl Volleyball

Our girls volleyball team have represented TRHS with true excellence this afternoon at the NSW CHS state Volleyball Grand Final. In a very difficult, and long (2 and a half hours) 5 set final thriller, we went down to Great Lakes Foster 15 - 11 in the final set. I could not have asked anymore of the team, who played so amazingly well.

The girls came through the semi this morning against Bomaderry HS in 3 good sets. All the team took the court, and the girls started to move like a 'pro team', and they were able to hold out the big hitting Bomaderry girls, with true T-Redz style - so was Paki's summary of the win.

The grand final was played on the professional show court, and Great lakes and Thomas Reddall lined up, shook hands, and started the official court warm up, with 300 audience members walking in for the big final.

Our girls won the first set 25-21, in a long point for point contest. Ava and Denese's experience helped the girls stay calm, and Moli and Sharon's commitment to they team, got the girls over the line. The 2nd set, went point for point again, with Great Lakes coming out on top 27-25. Changed ends, the reds frogs came out, sugar fix, back on court and TRHS takes the 3rd 25-23. Change again, sugar low kicks in, the Great Lakes big server comes through the rotation, and serves 4 aces. the set ties up at 25-25. After the longest rally ever (about 40 passes of the ball), Great Lakes get lucky on a line ball, and they get set point 26-25. We couldn't hold them out, and Great Lakes ties the game 2 set all!!!!!!!

It's so rare for the grand final to go to the 5th set, but here we were. The 5th set started well for us, point for point, until 8-7, then our girls who had given it their complete all, just couldn't hold out the very experienced and older Great Lakes team. We went down in the final, but EVERYONE in the whole of NSW, now knows who the Thomas Reddall girls volleyball team are!

Thomas Reddall HS are the first team from the Sydney South West area to ever make the NSW CHS state grand final, and this state schools competition has been played every year since 1972. TRHS's name will be engraved on the Steve Birt Teachers Credit Union Trophy as the 2011 Silver Medal Winners, with each of the girls, and Paki, and me winning their own silver medal, and the Runners Up trophy for the school.

The girls, Paki and myself will present the Trophy to Carol in the morning, and we will ask Carol to present the Trophy to the school at an assembly early next term.

It has been a great pleasure to experience such a huge achievement with these TRHS students. They have truly done Thomas Reddall, their families, themselves and Campbelltown very very proud. I know they were very grateful for the support of the school community, and of you all for the phone calls and email messages. (As am I Too!)

And now folks, I'm going to have a sleep - I'm completely exhausted!!!!!

Girls Open Volleyball

Just a quick update on our girls volleyball team from today's play at the State Champs.

We started this morning with a hard match against Mackellar Girls - previously home to the U19 World beach champion, so you know this school can play volleyball!

The first 2 sets were point for point - TRHS in the lead, then Mackellar. We worked hard and managed to hold out the first 2 sets 29-27, and 26-24. In the 3rd, we got a little tired - and a little scared I think, and while leading the whole set, we somehow had a brain freeze, and lost the 3rd 24-26!!!!! Heads went down, panic set in and it was time for the 'Miss Oates Team Talk'. I started by explaining that I wanted the ball set higher out to edge of the net for my big spikers to hit the ball. I tried explaining it by saying the ball needs to move like a big double rainbow. The girls looked blankly at me, so I said the magic words - "you know what the Maccas big yellow 'M' looks like" - eyes lit up, "yes miss" they said, "okay then, set the ball like the maccas 'M' ". And they did! We won the 4th set 25-12!!!! And through to the top half of the draw. (Much relief for Miss Oates!!!!! )

First game down, and off to our next match - Blayney HS - the 2010 State Champions!!!!!!! OMGOSH!!!!!!!!

After a much longer - 'Miss Oates Super Team Talk' (and then 5 minutes looking at mobile phone photos of snow in Blayney's playground at school last week,) we stepped up our game, found our confidence, and the girls played like little superstars!!!! Helped from the bench by Paki Bird (Yr 8) my amazing assistant coach/scoresheet official/general fillauppera of the waters bottles super helper, the girls came through this quarter final, in 3 straight sets, winning the match, and taking TRHS through to the semi finals tomorrow!!!!!!

We play Bomaderry HS in the semi final tomorrow at 10am. Bomaderry were the 2009 runnerup state champions, so I know it will be a hard match, but I'm confident the girls will give it their best shot.

If we are lucky enough to win the semi, we will play the NSW CHS State final at 1pm, and if we lose, we will play for the bronze medal at 12.30pm. Either result will be an excellent achievement.

The girls, Paki and myself are leaving from the front school carpark tomorrow morning at 7am. If anyone does happen to be at school at that time, please come down to the carpark and wish the girls the best of luck for the games tomorrow.

Facebook Safety

Five ways to help your child manage Facebook.

1. Sign up for your own Facebook account, work out how to make a few friends and spend a couple of hours navigating your way around.

2. Find the privacy settings in the drop down menu by clicking on ‘Account' in the top right hand corner on the page. Facebook organises privacy settings into ‘Everyone', ‘Friends of friends', ‘Friends only' and ‘Customise', which can restrict access to an individual or small group.

3. Search for your child online yourself. You may find that their profile information including their name, photo, and a list of names and photos of all their friends can be accessed by anyone with a computer.

4. Then, ask your child to show you how their privacy settings are configured and find out whether they understand them.

5. Also ask them to show you how to block someone, how to refuse a friend request from a stranger and how to un-tag themselves from other people's photos; that is, take their searchable name off an image.

Anzac Day at TRHS

ANZAC Day at Thomas Reddall

On Thursday 22^nd of April, Thomas Reddall held their annual Anzac day commemoration ceremony day.

Once a year Thomas Reddall holds this day and thanks the people that fought at Gallipoli in World War 1, for their sacrifice of time, blood and tears shed in order for "us", the people of their land would be assured freedom. The entire school body congregated in the amphitheatre as we do for assemblies. The ceremony was hosted by student reps, Robert Barry and Taylor Kerewaro, a young year 7 student who was so eager to be part of the SRC and this event. They both took turn talking to the rest of the school and explaining the meaning of this important day and what we remember it.

The school held and usually holds the ceremony in the morning straight after normal assembly. After the hosts spoke, our respected national anthem was played followed by the trumpets solo associated with this memorable day and then by the respectful minute silence.

The students of Thomas Reddall have always brought their best manners and behaviour on this day and that was no different this year, a tradition and feat that any school should aspire to and be more than proud of. Topped off with the wonderful display of the school uniform depicting almost a synchronised sea of students is a most remarkable and respectful sight. We should all be proud.

Science Laboratories

Our wonderful new Science Laboratories have almost been finished. They will lead to a wider variety of teaching styles because of the new technology in them. Staff and students are all looking forward to moving back in to them.

Aspirations

The Aspirations Program was launched at TRHS on 19 March 2010. 20 students from Yr 11 will participate in a 4 session careers program in Term 2 and 3 at Investec Australia in Chifley Tower Sydney CBD. The Aspirations Program is sponsored by the Australian Business and Community Network (ABCN) . The ABCN Aspirations Coordinator is Andrew Venables and the TRHS Coordinators are Michelle Sapsed and Pam Acosta. Present at today's launch were: 20 Yr 11 students, 8 Investec Coaches, Ms Acosta, Mrs Marshman, Andrew Venables (ABCN Coorinator) and 2 ABCN facilitators. Cherei Edwards HT TAS and Yr 12 Hospitality students provided the catering.

New Time Tables Issued

Students and Parents should be aware that new Timetables were issued on Friday 19th February. There are many room changes and some class time shifts to accommodate the Building. These will be in force until further notice. Please see your Year Advisor if you did not receive one.

Science Laboratory Refurbishment

From week 5 until the end of term 1 our Science Laboratories are undergoing major Refurbishment under the Federal Government National Science Laboratory Refurbishment Program. We will be stretched a little to reorganise classes into other rooms for the duration but the results should be worth the disruption.
